Frequently asked questions
General
How does the payout work?
Precision Marksman Series is built to reward more shooters—not just the overall winners.
Instead of a traditional winner-take-most payout, competitors are placed into one of three payout divisions based on their final overall finish. You still compete against the entire field, but your payout is determined by your division, creating more opportunities to earn a check.
Each match includes:
Added money to the purse
A percentage of entry fees paid back to competitors ( payback can vary, typically 25-30%)
3-Divisional payouts
Multiple payout positions per division (based on entry numbers)
Jackpot Shootout
Door prizes and raffles
The result is a competition that rewards more shooters while still recognizing the best overall performances. This gives our shooters a chance to go home with more than a $50 value prize. It gives them a chance to win real money, a real prize, and come back for the chance to every year. This is why Barrel racing events are big. Everyone has a chance to win, not a guarantee, but its worth the effort and investment.
How does the PMS point system work?
The Precision Marksman Series uses a unique scoring format designed to reward performance while protecting the integrity of the competition.
Unlike traditional matches where every stage is worth the same number of points, PMS features variable point values, bonus points, and high-value stages throughout the match. This gives every competitor opportunities to gain ground and keeps the match exciting until the very last stage.
Will live scores be available?
To ensure fair competition, live point totals are not displayed during the match. Competitors will see names and current placings, but not cumulative points. This prevents shooters from changing their strategy based on live scoring or intentionally managing their finish to gain an advantage.
The top shooters will still have to perform consistently on every stage to win, but the variable scoring format gives competitors throughout the field opportunities to earn valuable points and climb the leaderboard.
While shooters are welcome to discuss their stage performance, we recommend not sharing your stage times or cumulative scores. Keeping that information private helps preserve the integrity of the competition and prevents other competitors from adjusting their strategy based on your results.
Our goal is simple: let every competitor shoot their match without outside influence.
Every stage matters. Every point counts. Every competitor has a chance.
What kinds of raffle items and door prizes can I expect?
One of the goals of the Precision Marksman Series is to reward as many competitors as possible. In addition to our payouts, we'll have door prizes and premium raffle items throughout the event.
Door prizes may include (but are not limited to):
Shooting gear
Gift cards
Tripods
Barrels
Precision levels
Backpacks
Shooting accessories
Apparel
Optics accessories
And much more
Premium raffle items will feature larger-value prizes such as:
Swarovski Optik binoculars
Kahles Scope
Precision rifles
Other brand rifle scopes
Tripods
Premium optics
Suppressors (where legally applicable)
Other high-end gear from our sponsors
Prize offerings will vary from match to match as our sponsor lineup continues to grow, so every event will feature something new.
Whether you're competing for a check, chasing a raffle prize, or hoping your name is drawn for a door prize, everyone has a chance to go home a winner.
Tie breakers are determined by stage time.
Each stage has a designated point where the timer stops (as outlined in the stage brief).
Depending on the stage, this may be when the shooter:
Crosses the finish line
Stands up from the final position
Shows clear after completing the stage
If two shooters finish with the same score, the competitor with the faster recorded stage time will win the tie breaker.
If two shooters clean the stage and record the exact same time, the payout or award for those tied positions will be split equally.
Every competitor receives a scorecard where both points and stage times are recorded, and official records are maintained by the match staff.
What are the payouts and awards for each division?
The Open Division is paid just like a barrel race using our 3-Divisional payout format.
Each division (1D, 2D, and 3D) receives a percentage of the total payout, with the number of paid places determined by the number of entries. Depending on turnout, 3–10 places may be paid in each division. ( 10 places would need 200+ entries).
